#BookEnds2021: October

How did it go?
I was pretty ill over October, so spend a lot of time reading comics. I especially enjoyed the Life is Strange series which tie into the video game of the same name (I fell down a rabbit hole, it was great).

I also adored The People in the Trees by Hanya Yanagihara, a nuanced examination of white male colonialism through the lens of scientific discovery.

I loved Nina Mingya Powle’s Small Bodies of Water which I devoured in an airport when my flight was delayed. It was very dark and rainy outside and I wasn’t sure I was going to get home, and this book saved me.

Some of the books I read this month: The People in the Trees, Small Bodies of Water and The End: Surviving the World Through Imagined Disasters.

Full list here.

However… I also gained the following books in October 2021…

  • Igifu, Scholastique Mukasonga (book group)

Next Up…

Plans for reading: The PowerBook by Jeanette Winterson, The Wandering by Intan Paramaditha, Michael Chabon’s Telegraph Avenue

I’m currently reading The PowerBook by Jeanette Winterson, which I got in a book box earlier in the year, and nicely dovetailed with Written on the Body which I recently finished.

For book group, I’ll be looking at The Wandering by Intan Paramaditha, a choose-your-own-adventure about shoes that let you travel the world. I’ve actually read it before, but also not, because every time you read it it’s different.

In terms of my book pile, I’m thinking of looking at Telegraph Avenue or Wolf Hall or something similarly chunky to see me into winter.
